This Hawaiian Escape Overlooks a Prime Surfing Spot Known as Acid Drops

Listing of the Day

Location: Poipu, Kauai, Hawaii

Price: $15 million

Perched above a prime surfing area known as Acid Drops, this cozy four-bedroom home offers a heated pool, open views, an oceanfront lanai and 290 feet of water frontage.

“It’s on a rocky, craggy point overlooking one of the best surfing beaches in Hawaii, and there are other great beaches nearby,” said listing agent Neal Norman of Hawaii Life.

Situated on the island of Kauai’s pristine Poipu coastline, the 1993 home was designed by the late Seattle architect Ralph Anderson, he said. “It’s rare in our community to have great architecture.”

Anderson “came to the island and fell in love with this area,” Mr. Norman said. He built this as a second home for his family.

“This was his dream house and he built it with local materials,” Mr. Norman said. The house on Lawai Road is “all by itself and quite private.”

The house is mostly on a single level, with one bedroom upstairs. Design details include scissor beams, lava-rock pillars and custom floor-to-ceiling sliding glass doors.

From the front door, “you walk into an indoor/outdoor living space, and to the right is a beautiful, really cool kitchen with a pass-through window to the pool and a vintage surfboard island,” Mr. Norman said.

The Poipu coastline is the “most beautiful area of the south shore of the island,” he said. The home is in a “quaint community that’s heavily amenitized. It’s a very natural, very raw place.”

The house offers good views of surfers in action.

The 3,706-square-foot house has four bedrooms and four full bathrooms. It sits on a 0.8-acre lot.

Amenities include an oceanfront lanai, a heated swimming pool, an outdoor shower and access through the landscaped yard to a small and protected sandy cove, Keiki Beach.

There is also “excellent fishing off a rocky outcropping,” Mr. Norman said.

Neighborhood Notes

The home is quite near the Kukui’ula resort, which offers golf, restaurants and shops, Mr. Norman said.

“It’s less than a five-minute drive to Kaloha, the main town on the southern coast of the island,” he said.
